In Katherine with Daughter Debbie and 3 grandies Stephanie working Anglicare here in Town as is Olivier at Muir and Sons Farm supplies and Levi is working on a Sandlewood plantation not far out of town.

Debbie has a new Managerial position at the Hospital

It is a beautiful warm climate here in the winter, not so pleasant in the summer wet season apparently .

Debbs home is large with a  Swimming pool and is on stilts being a flood prone area  so there is plenty of space ,

great place to relax .

The school of the air is just at the corner of her street and we did a tour of it yesterday . It has about 180 students all in touch by satellite spread over a radius of 500 kilometres or so from Tenant Creek in the south to the gulf in the North east and the  kimberlies to the North west.

The hot spring swimming pool is a very popular place we discovered last year and is not only used by the local kids but is very popular with the Grey Nomads such as us touring through the area

Debbies swimming pool in Katherine

It is Sunday night and we have just had dinner with Deb and Levi and Hanna ,Olivier and Adam and a Neighbour friend.

This afternoon we went out to  Edith Falls and met Stephanie and  friend and Alison had a  swim in the pool out there .

Yesterday Saturday we went to the Gorge again and had a walk there and Lunch and then took a helicopter ride over the 13 gorge sites on a helispirit R44 Robinson chpper . It was not until we boarded I realised it did not have any doors but luckily we were well strapped in but had to hang on to my phone for the pictures . It is a rugged and beautiful part of this Country . You may check our Blogg from last year on our west coast trip we enjoyed a dinner cruise on the river through the gorge

Went with Debbie to the Filipino Association Independence day night here in K on Saturday night

Great food and atmosphere Deb has a few Filipino Girls working in the Hospital

Went to Darwin with Debbie Had Lunch on wharf and checked out new museum especially the 3D 360 degree video with the goggles and headset of the air raid on Darwin in 1942 . Extremely graphic and well done . That raid had  180 planes and destroyed most of the ships in the harbour and caught everyone by complete surprise .Only 11 weeks after the Pearl Harbour attack which was only 80 planes .This attack meant the Japanese were serious about taking Australia and it was only the battle on the kodogo track and and the US build up in the pacific that stopped them.

Also did a tour of the harbour and also the Pairlament House where we saw a picture of well Known Donald and NT leader DR Goff Lettes who was I think the first of the GoVernment Leaders here known as Majority Leader before the Title of First Minister was introduced.

We sat in the gallery and watched proceedings as the house was sitting.

We then went a walked through the Botanic gardens and saw Andrew who was practicing his Golf in the park there .

By that time we had to take our car back and catch the plane to Cairns

At Weipa with Bill and Stephanie

Went with Bill and Steph for two days trip to the Tip, Cape York over 6 hours driving on mostly unmade roads to the Tip > pretty dry here in the dry season at Weipa but as we went North we ran into rain and it was wet all the first day as we went into rainforest areas and lush growth all the way up .

They are doing work on the road and even some new bitumen Happening and it was raining pretty heavily in spots made the road slippery especially on the bends.

Always apparently hold ups at the ferry crossing on the Jardine  river as it is run by the indiginess folk up  here no matter how long the Queue they Stop for an hour for lunch  and charge $100 ? two ways . Got caught and took 3 hours on the way home but no one seems to mind all are in Holiday mood and keen to relate their adventure stories over a coffee break or two.

We saw an air crash site up there  A DC 3 came down on way to png in 45 I Think .

Reminded me of my trip to To Brisbane on one with Russell Stebbins after we took  our first Harvest off back in 54 I think I was only 14 and Russell drove the tractor and I was on the harvestor and Dad was carting the grain away .

It took us 5 or six weeks to do 500 acres ,Now they do it in a day  but My Dad allowed us to fly to Brisbane to stay with my Uncle Harold and his family .He was a Baptist Pastor at Toowong .

It took all day the flight as we landed five times . Albury, Sydney, Coffs Harbour , Coolangatta and Brisbane .Takes not much over an hour now , The world has shrunk somewhat hey.DC 3 crash 45
