Navaho Desert and California Drought

Big contrast with the rest of the Country . The Californian drought has been going for at least two years and it is a pretty dry area anyway . The Country all the way from the eastern states has been green even the panhandles of Texas and Okhohoma were very lush and the cattle looking sleek even into Arizona but driving into the Navaho desert it is dry as chips , very like Cooper Pedy even to the stones and the temperature climbed to around 109 F but it is more hilly as we come off the high country .

We are are in a nice motel just out of the Sequoyia park and there is a lot of Orange graves and other orchard fruit here using mostly underground water but the dry ground is bare as a board and the crops hardly worth harvesting . It is only a ten inch average rain anyway and they have not had near that so if the aquifers were not there would be nothing .

It is hot and there is a smoky haze from the fires further north and visibility is limited ‘

Heading for the big trees today hopefully we will find some shade for lunch.
