It is a long time since we have had coal soot in our eyes . When I was a kid when the steam passenger trains ran through Donald and we were going to Melbourne we would put our heads out the window and next thing we would be rubbing our eyes . Well guess what . In an open carriage and the engine climbing steeply up the Animas river valley in the San Juan National Park, We got covered in soot .

Three and half hours at an average of 15 Miles per hour and several stops to take on water through the most picturesque unwinding views we arrived at Silvertown . Enjoying a leisurely lunch and spending a couple of hours in this old mining town we departed on our Homewood journey . Much easier on the loco and just as enjoyable and another three and a half hours we arrived back in Durango . Unforgetable , again Idyllic is the ride my old Friend, ED Bernreuter. my first real American friend always wanted to take us on , We were always too busy on the couple or three visits we had here with Ed to make it . We got close once in 96 when we went to his nephews , The Stums in the sth East of the state , Well we finally made it Ed and I hope you were watching from Heaven as we delighted in this beautiful part of the World.DSC_0058 DSC_0047 DSC_0040 DSC_0039 DSC_0033 DSC_0023 DSC_0019 DSC_0015 DSC_0010 DSC_0002
